Plain-English version: this site doesn't have user accounts, doesn't ask for your email, and doesn't sell or share visitor data. It sets one cookie and uses standard web analytics. Details below.

The cookie

When you load any page on this site, a single cookie called sns_sid is set in your browser. It contains a random 128-bit number generated when you first arrive. It does not contain your name, email, location, IP, or any information about you. It's an opaque token.

That cookie does two things:

• It tells the recommender's rate limiter that you're a specific browser, so one person hammering the calculator on a shared network (office, dorm, mobile carrier) doesn't accidentally lock out other people on the same network.
• It lets analytics distinguish "one person visiting five pages" from "five people visiting one page each" without needing any other identifier.

The cookie lasts 30 days from your last visit. Clear it from your browser at any time and the site keeps working; a new random number gets generated on your next visit.

Analytics

Standard web analytics run on this site to track which pages and calculators get used. The data is aggregated and includes things like page views, time on page, referring sites, and broad geographic region (country / state level, not your address). It does not include any personally identifiable information.

If you'd rather not be counted, browser-level "Do Not Track" headers and ad blockers both work as expected on this site.

Ads

This site is supported by display advertising. Ad networks that run on the site use their own cookies and may collect data about your visit to show relevant ads, including ads on other sites you visit afterward. Ad networks have their own privacy policies; the ones running here will be listed on this page as they're added.

Most browsers let you opt out of personalized advertising. YourOnlineChoices.com is a good starting point.

What this site does not do

• No email collection unless you actively send one (via support@scaleandstem.com).
• No newsletter, no account system, no profile to fill out.
• No selling or sharing of user data with anyone outside the ad and analytics providers listed above.
• No cross-site tracking. Your activity here stays here.

Your rights

You can clear the cookie, block analytics, block ads, or stop visiting at any time. If you're in a jurisdiction with formal data rights (EU/UK GDPR, California CCPA, etc.) and want to make a request, email support@scaleandstem.com. Since this site doesn't keep an identifiable record of visitors, there's usually nothing to request, but requests will get a response.

Changes

When a new analytics tool, ad network, or anything else that processes visitor data gets added, this page gets updated. There's no email list for changes, so the date at the top is the version marker.
